Carpacity operates a cheeky road sensor that gives feedback on car occupancies. We help municipalities promote green mobility and reduce CO2 emissions.
What we do
Carpacity accelerates the societal transformation towards accessible, affordable and - most importantly - environmentally-friendly mobility. We help municipalities raise awareness among citizens and offer an entirely new marketing channel to mobility providers.
At its core, our system consists of a sensor and two LED displays that are installed next to the road, e.g. a bottleneck in daily commuter traffic. Along 3 steps, our system grabs the drivers’ attention and promotes sustainable mobility solutions to them. Drivers with friends, colleagues or family in their car are rewarded with positive feedback, e.g. a smiley. On the contrary, drivers who are going alone are reminded of their negative climate balance.

Step 1 - Measurement
We detect an approaching car and use infrared technology to measure the occupancy rate of the car. How many people are inside? No license plate detection, no face recognition, no storage of personal data. Everything is in line with the law.
Step 2 - Feedback
We immediately provide personalised feedback on the car's occupancy via a highly visible LED screen at the roadside.
Step 3 - Advertisement
All cars passing by are finally exposed to another LED screen: Advertisements of alternative mobility providers e.g. carpooling, carsharing, e-bike rentals, paratransit and of course public transport. Carpacity selects these providers carefully to guarantee that their offers represent a satisfying alternative to the private car.
